Sports, arts and environmental organisations across the Isle of Wight will soon be invited to apply for assistance with cross-Solent travel through Wightlink’s sponsorship scheme – Wightlink in the Community. The window for applications will open for a month tomorrow – Tuesday 1 October 2024.
The ferry company has been supporting local groups for decades, after signing its first sponsorship arrangement with Ryde Rowing Club in 1987 – the rowers are still sponsored today.
Wightlink’s sports and arts sponsorship focuses on groups which enhance the quality of life for Islanders, especially young people. A wide range of sports are included along with arts groups representing dance, drama, carnival and music.
As part of Wightlink’s commitment to sustainability, environmental organisations working on the Isle of Wight which would benefit from cross-Solent travel support, are also encouraged to apply for sponsorship.
Successful applicants will join a network of Island groups. As well as receiving support with ferry travel, their achievements are showcased online, on a dedicated Wightlink in the Community Facebook page, and they are also invited to an annual celebration event.
Full details of the scheme and an application form can be found on Wightlink’s sponsorship page, the window closes at the end of October.
Wightlink’s Chief Executive Katy Taylor says: “We are very proud to play a part in supporting groups which are creating opportunities for young Islanders. We understand the difference it makes to groups that regularly travel off the Island to train, compete or perform and look forward to receiving this year’s applications.”
